Beanie Baby

You would think spring would mean warmth. Sun shining and birds chirping usually translates into me freezing. Seriously, I dread spring for one reason: the A/C vs. heater battle. Seems air conditioners and heaters are locked into some form of dance during the spring months. The heater plans that the cold weather is over, so it chills out. The A/C gets all fired up to cool us down, so it’s turned up full blast. What ends up happening is over-zealous temperature control—too much of a cool thing.

It’s enough to stress a mom out. After all, you spend all  morning looking at Doppler radar maps, studying cloud formations, taking barometric pressure—all to find out the temperature so that you can dress your little one appropriately (OK, maybe you don’t, but ever since The Weather Channel made an iPhone app, I’m obsessed.). Then you go out to a restaurant and sit under a blast of chilly arctic A/C air. It’s just not fair.

It’s not exactly convenient (or sane) to carry around a quick-change snowsuit in May, so might I suggest a hat. This great Italian knit one to be exact from Album di Famiglia. It’s small in size and big in warmth. There’s something to the notion that most of your body’s heat escapes through your head. Just pull it onto your little one’s noggin when the temperature didn’t get the memo that temps are still a little cool.
