SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

At Estella, being socially responsible is every bit as important as offering unique products and providing excellent customer service. Not only do we buy as many organic baby clothes, but we work hard to limit our carbon footprint. We make our private label line of onesies, rompers, t shirts and leggings entirely in the USA. Not only do we design this line in New York City, but we have the fabric made exclusively for us in the USA, we cut it in the USA, we sew it in the USA, we dye it in the USA and we distribute it from the USA. Treading lightly on our increasingly delicate earth has always been of utmost concern to us - for ourselves, and more importantly, our children.

Further, we make our baby layette with bamboo cotton, which is not just silky soft and smooth on newborns sensitive skin, but the cotton fiber is also made from a sustainable wood. Bamboo regenerates very quickly therefore making cotton from it is not as harmful to the environment as regular cotton.

When we manufacture abroad, we try to do so in needy communities. For instance, we have some of products manufactured by women living in the poverty stricken rural regions of Gorkha, Nepal. These women are employed and trained to knit, embroider and crochet at centers, known as "Ashaghar" (House of Hope). Most of the time, their earnings from knitting is the primary source of income for their families. So buying some of our knit sweaters sustains these women and their families. Other than manufacturing ethically and locally, we support local private and public organizations with a socially conscious mission.

Reach Out and Read of Greater New York

Estella has had a fund raiser for Reach Out and Read of Greater New York - a not-for-profit organization that works with pediatricians, authors and publishers to get books to lower income families and encourage them to read to their kids before the age of 6. Reach Out and Read of Greater New York’s mission is to make literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care so that children grow up with books and a love of reading. ROR GNY serves over 230,000 children throughout the New York metropolitan region and distributes close to 400,000 books annually.

To help further their mission, Estella had a shopping event where we donated 10% of sales to them. For more information about ROR GNY, please visit their website at www.reachoutandreadnyc.org.

Action Against Hunger

Also, Estella works with Action Against Hunger to help eradicate childhood malnutrition and educate others about world hunger. Action Against Hunger distributes Plumpynut, a ready-to-eat nutritional paste that has been recognized by the World Health Organization as a major tool in eradicating malnutrition in kids up to 6 years old. Among other things, Estella developed and retails a Plumpynut bracelet. All profits from this bracelet will go to Action Against Hunger for the purchase of this life saving concoction.

Children's Museum of the East End

Estella participated in an event that raised money for the Children's Museum of the East End (CMEE). Anyone who has ever spent time in the Hamptons with young children can appreciate the value of CMEE. Come rain, shine or snow, CMEE is guaranteed fun for kids. With over 10,000 square feet and both permanent and rotating interactive exhibits, CMEE is a never-ending adventure for children.

Having enjoyed the benefits of CMEE, the Estella family was excited to help raise money for a long-overdue outdoor play area, furthering the museum’s ability to carry out its mission; to foster the curiosity and imagination of their young visitors. Not only is Estella donated 10% of its online sales for a specific period, but it also participated in a group trunk show at CMEE. For more information about CMEE, visit www.cmee.org.
